We'd like to say massive congratulations to Emma Lawson and her sister Kirsty Barnes, who ran the Great South Run last Sunday (15th October) in memory of their dear mum Ursula Lawson, who sadly passed away at the Wessex Neurological Centre in June, having suffered a brain aneurysm.
They were joined by Kirsty's husband Jason, Emma's good friend Candi, and their mums colleague Claire Thomas and her husband Russell, with Kirsty's son George completing the Mini South Run on the Saturday.
Emma told us that whilst her sister and friends completed the 10 mile challenge around Portsmouth in their target times, she unfortunately suffered an injury at approximately 3 miles. Whilst she carried on running until the 5 mile mark, she was in too much pain to continue running, and ended up walking/hobbling the remaining 5 miles to complete the challenge.
Although gutted to have not finished the race in her target time, Emma sought medical attention the next day, where an x-ray revealed she had in fact fractured her ankle!
We hope Emma is recovering well from her injury and would like to thank them all for supporting Smile4Wessex and the Wessex Neurological Centre.
