It's not just staff who are still working at the Wessex, Chris Hammond is a contractor who's keeping vital equipment serviced and running. Having himself recently spent 3 weeks on a Neuro ward at the unit, and at which he is currently working 4 days per week, Chris has set himself a challenge to cycle from his original home town of Glossop in Derbyshire to his current home town of Fareham. His plan is to make the ride in early September, covering just over 250 miles over 3 days (subject to current restrictions being lifted in time).
And as if that’s not enough, Chris has also entered the Manchester Marathon (rescheduled for October) if it goes ahead!
"I'm trying to raise funds for the Wessex Neurological Centre and I'm currently up to about £400 but would like to get more if possible! So if you have a few quid spare then please donate to another vital service being carried out by the marvellous teams within the NHS. Cheers, Chris"
