On the 20th and 21st May, students and staff from the Combined Cadet Force at the Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester will undertake a special 2 x 2 x 24 challenge in aid of Smile4Wessex.
The sponsored challenge is being organised by Contingent Commander Major Kevin Matthews, and will see participants run 2 miles every 2 hours for 24 hours, with options to take part in the full (24 mile), half (12 mile) or quarter (6 mile) version of the challenge.
In May 2022, one of Thomas Hardye School's adult volunteers had what initially seemed like a severe headache, while delivering training on a cadet training weekend, but subsequently underwent an emergency operation at the Wessex Neurological Centre to relieve the pressure inside the brain, and a second emergency operation to remove a lesion.
Major Matthews says the swift treatment and support received from Wessex Neurological Centre undoubtedly saved his colleagues life and reduced any long term side-effects and is eternally grateful to the unit and staff for the care they received.
We'd like to thank Major Matthews and Thomas Hardye School for supporting us and look forward to the challenge.
