On the 27th July, Purbeck Shooting School held their annual Charity Clay Pigeon Shoot, BBQ and Raffle in aid of Smile4Wessex and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, following their good friend Karl Elton's diagnosis of a brain tumour in October last year.

Karl was diagnosed with a 4th Ventricular Tumour following 6 months of debilitating symptoms and underwent surgery at the Wessex Neurological Centre to remove this. A month following surgery he returned to work and the sport he loved, and knew the shoot would be a fitting fundraiser to thank all the team for the wonderful care he received

This thing stopped me doing what I wanted for a few months but now it's nothing more than a scar on the back of my head, which is my reminder of how lucky I am to have met this great team at Southampton Hospital and the fantastic work they’ve done for me.

The owners said this years event had the best turn out they had ever seen, with participants competing for trophies in each category, raising a fantastic £1915 at the event for the two charities.

In addition to this, the multinational fuel company BP have generously agreed to match fund the amount raised, which along with Karl's own online fundraising, brings the total raised for Smile4Wessex to £2550, which is incredible!

We'd like to thank Karl, Purbeck Shooting School and everyone who helped make this event so successful.
