Joanne's 25km Easter Walk 31/03/2018

Joanne's 25km Easter Walk

When Joanne sets out to walk a 25km route from Windsor Racecourse, along the Thames towpath and back to Windsor, she'll be doing so with with the knowledge that things could have been so different. Here, in Joanne's own words, is why.

"Our son Robert Marsden was admitted into your Neuro ICU Ward on 27th February last year with a severe head injury. Within a couple of days he had life saving surgery. We were told that his chances of survival were slim and if he did pull through he could/would be severely brain damaged. After nearly two weeks they brought Robert out of his coma and later that week we moved to Salisbury hospital and we came back (to the Wessex) a few months later for surgery to put the skull piece back in. A year on Robert has made a miraculous recovery and apart from now being partially sighted, a loss of smell and post traumatic epilepsy, he is nearly the same person. I truly believe your fantastic team saved more than his life. They are the most wonderful people I have ever met and that goes from your top surgeon down to the cleaners. They were there for us in every single way. I will never be able to thank them enough."

We are indeed fortunate to have such a skilled and dedicated team at the Weesex, and we're delighted that Robert has made such tremendous progress. We're also very grateful to Joanne for choosing Smile4Wessex to benefit from her Easter Walk. If you'd like to sponsor Joanne, you can visit her fundraising page by clicking HERE
