La Grande Mare, on the beautiful west coast of Guernsey, was again the venue for the 6th annual Guernsey Golf Day and Dinner. A total of 19 teams participated, and whilst the rain stopped just as the first groups were teeing off, a strong wind made playing conditions particularly challenging. However, nobody seemed to mind that given the torrential rain of the preceding days!
Sadly, nobody managed a hole-in-one at the 10th hole, so the Mini offered as a prize for such a feat had to go back to Jacksons. Maybe next year!
In the evening, golfers and partners returned to LGM for an excellent meal, the prize-giving and a charity auction. As always, those present were extraordinarily generous with their bids, and the auction contributed significantly to an overall and remarkable total of £13,170 raised by the event for Smile4Wessex.
This brings the total raised by this event in the six years it has been staged to over £80,000 – an incredible amount for which we, and all at the Wessex Neurological Centre, are eternally grateful.
Of course, none of this would be possible but for the hard work of Glyn Smith, Paul Wheatley, John Southwell and Ian Champion, the team of Guernsey volunteers who have made this event into such a tremendous success. We’d also like to thank the main sponsor of the event, Insurance Corporation Channel Islands, who have so generously supported the event for the past three years.
